We cannot march to the capital, but we can meet with our elected officials when they are in town.  We need to empower our legislators to serve as a backstop to the proposed public education spending cuts. We MUST lobby our elected officials to continue the bi-partisan efforts last session to forward fund education, invest in our state's children, prevent mass lay-offs of educators, and remove politics from the classroom! In addition, we must restore a secure retirement system for educators and protect rural schools from arbitrary closures! We may not be negotiating with the district for a couple of years, but make no mistake about it: THIS IS the beginning of our next contract negotiations! (How will we get a fair and reasonable contract next time if education funding is slashed?)  

If you live in the Eagle River / Chugiak area, your representatives are having their own caucus meeting at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center (22424 Birchwood Loop Rd.) from 2-4pm the same day.vd.
