Issues
At the Anchorage Education Association, we advocate for the issues that matter most to educators, students, and our public schools. From fair bargaining and strong contracts to securing a stable retirement and fully funding our classrooms, our work is grounded in the belief that supporting educators is essential to student success.
Bargaining & Negotiations
Our constitutional right to negotiate collectively for our wages and working conditions is fundamental to our association. AEA members negotiate with the Anchorage School District to determine the terms of our contract which typically spans a three-year period. Without bargaining, the District would have the ability to dictate the terms of our employment and leave members without a voice.
Retirement
In 2006, Alaska went from offering one of the best retirement systems in the country, to one of the worst. Since that time, AEA and NEA-Alaska have been leading an effort to change that. Through informational sessions, trainings, and legislative advocacy, our members are the driving force behind changing the current system and restoring a retirement with dignity for all Alaska public employees.
